We fell in love with Shungite many years ago and have them in all shapes and sizes, carefully placed all over our house. In my humble opinion, Shungite is a crystal that should feature in every home! I hope that, as you get to know Shungite better, you too will fall in love with it.
Shungite is a black, carbon-rich crystal that was first discovered in the Karelia region of Russia near the Shunga village (and got its name from there). It is one of the oldest materials on our planet and is estimated to be several billion years old.
Most people who get Shungite from us do so, not because they adore its black colour, but rather because they know about Shungite and how amazing it is. It is one of the few crystals, where I have found some good research. So, much of what I am able to share here is based on this scientific research.
What's so special about Shungite?
Shungite contains a unique carbon structure called fullerenes, and many of Shungite’s special properties are attributed to them.
Once you understand the power of fullerenes, you will wonder how you have managed life without it, because for a start, fullerenes are one of the most powerful antioxidants on this earth!
It is also the fullerenes that are believed to play an important role in Shungite’s ability to:
· cleanse and purify water
· reduce inflammation
· deal with bacteria and viruses
· neutralise unhealthy electro-magnetic fields (EMF) and geopathic stress.
Shungite and EMF
It may be useful to remind ourselves of the safety instructions that come with every mobile device (but few people read). They state that a mobile phone should never be used within 2cm of your head and the ‘safe’ distance given for iPad is 20cm from the body!
Nobody knows the full extent that harmful electro-magnetic field (EMF), like those created by WIFI, mobile phones, Bluetooth and smart technology etc, will have on our energetic bodies. Only time will tell. In the meantime, it may be wise to reduce, wherever possible, the exposure to these technologies, and when that is not an option, then shielding from EMF may be your next best step.
Shungite offers a natural level of protection from EMF. Here is a link to some research that concluded that shielding with Shungite decreased the severity of damage produced by high-frequency electromagnetic radiation in rats!
Shungite is best worn on your body, and/or placed near every EMF emitting device.
Personally, I always have a piece of Shungite on me, either as a pendant or a bracelet (depending on my mood). Furthermore, we have lots of various pieces of Shungite in our house. We place it wherever we want to minimise the impact of unwanted electromagnetic fields, so you will even find a Shungite plate in our fridge!
Shungite – drinking water
The exact way in which Shungite interacts with water has not been completely understood yet. However, the fullerenes’ shape is likely to have something to do with it. The carbon structure of fullerenes makes up a shape that looks like a football (with 12 pentagons and 20 hexagons in it). It is believed that it is this structure that is able to absorb many free radicals without being destroyed by it.
Historical records show that Shungite was used in the Shunga area some 2000 years ago for water purification.
In more recent years, Shungite has been ‘verified’ as being able to:
· naturally kill bacteria
· remove pesticides from water
· absorb toxins and heavy metals from water
Furthermore:
“The research of antioxidant properties of Shungite ….. have shown that Shungite removes free radicals out of water in 30 times more effective than activated carbon. This is a very important factor, because the free radicals formed during water treatment with chlorine and its derivatives, have a negative impact on the human health that is the cause of many diseases (cardiovascular diseases, cancer, etc.).”

Making your own Shungite drinking water
If you are looking to make your own Shungite water, you will need to work with elite Shungite. Elite Shungite has a carbon content of 90-98% and the highest content of fullerenes.
To create 1 liter of Shungite water you will need about 35 grams of Elite Shungite:
1. Cleanse the Shungite crystals before every use, to ensure it is cleansed of all chemicals it may have attracted in previous uses
2. Add water to it and put a lid on it
3. Keep in the fridge for 3 days
4. Strain the Shungite water to ensure no Shungite pieces are left in the water before drinking it
5. ENJOY
We stock a number of Shungite products in our shop and have recently added the elite Shungite so you can make your own Shungite water at home.
